Aside from Shawn's comments, this is a beautiful thread. Thanks for all the links and information regarding charities that truly do make a difference. The WTBTS could sure take a lesson from those truly following Christ's example when it comes to tangible 'feeding' and 'consoling' of the poor and less fortunate, specifically the Catholic Church!

Anyone reading Tom Harpur's new book Water Into Wine?
by Meeting Junkie No More ini am in the middle of reading the above, having read his previous book the pagan christ.
i more or less agree with his new outlook, especially his empowering vision of the gospels when read metaphorically and allegorically.
anyone else have any comments?

Dispelling Watchtower Myths of RC Beliefs
by Amazing inover the last two years, as i moved back to the catholic church, i have been confronted with objections by several people regarding certain catholic teachings.
these concerns are almost always the same, and are founded in mythology created by the watchtower society, and some evangelical denominations.
god can and does use fallible men to do infallible things?

I believe that a part of divinity is in all life forms but accompanied by distractions which seek to suppress it until the life form dies and the divinity in each passes onwards. The divinity cannot be destroyed but can become neglected and hurt - or enhanced and inspired.
It is for each of us to respect the divinity in life and help enhance that which is in each of us.
So I have an atheists view of a creator but a spiritual view of divinity. And the two feel like they are headed for a rendezvous which respects all life for what an amazing thing it is.
R. Crusoe: Brilliantly stated...
When the Catholic Church and the Watchtower Society finally realize that the Bible cannot be taken literally but is metaphorical and an allegory for the development of the divine in each of us, all 'beliefs' can be dismantled and the prejudices of one side vs. the other can be dispelled.

Suing the tower
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/157788/1.ashx.
in the above thread, otwo made a comment about how someone might sue the wt based on their shunning policy.
i have not seen the topic discussed here and have been unsuccessful in getting the search function of the site to gather information about it, but i wonder if we as a group could sue the washtowel society.

I'm no lawyer but my feeling is that a case could be made to haul the WTBTS (or whatever legal entity they're hiding behind at the present moment) before the UN Human Rights commission. There are human rights being violated imo, and the 'Society' should not be able to hide behind the 'religion' card. The ground is shifting in this area so the time may not be ripe right now, but I think it is fast approaching.
Anyone with a LEGAL OPINION out there?

District Overseer comments at CA reveal GB out of answers...
by still_in74 inso 2 weeks ago i went to my 2 day ca.. this had lots of interesting tid-bits, like the wt summary of the generation change.
the conductor said that if we were listeing to jesus speak we would have known he was speaking about us!
then he followed with "and thats probably what they understood too" - i couldnt believe he actually said probably.. anyway, at the end of sunday the do came about and went into a bit about all the things the org has done for us.

Well, I unfortunately lost so much of my sense of 'urgency' that I totally skipped the CA this year....after all, every CA has the usual 'loss of joy, loss of sense of urgency, loss of taking proper direction' talk - why would I want to go there just to hear that same old sh*t again? I wonder if they realize all their griping and harping is not reaching its intended audience and only serving to alienate the ones still in that have to listen to the repeated scoldings.
They better come up some real spiritual food SOON or they won't have any attendees at all. Good for you on sitting through that...

Wordless World
by hamilcarr ini don't mean a world without any language or communication, but a world in which words are taken for what they really are, namely human constructions, and not as the foundations of supertheories.
i think we've all been seeking for words without really defining them, such as 'truth', 'beauty', 'happiness', etc.
hence, the realisation of these pursuits can make us happy or desperate.

Lots of governmental changes in the works as far as charities are concerned in Canada...it will be interesting to see what, if anything, will affect the WTBTS' and individual congregation's charitable status...I suspect this is partially what is behind the 'book study' change of name to Congregation Bible Study. If religions are limited to promoting only their own brand and not to critique or point out the flaws in other religions, the dubs will have to tone down the rhetoric somewhat in order to comply - interesting times ahead....

The Dawkins Deception (bogus reasoning on the "improbability" of God)
by hooberus inrecently i carefully read (and highlighted) chapter 4 of richard dawkins book "the god delusion".
dawkins argument is meant to show that "there almost certainly is no god".
his reasoning (taken from various points on different pages by myself) is basically as follows:.

I'm in the middle of reading this book too. Some interesting points...but:
We're evolving creatures. All we know is limited by our senses and instruments. We don't have perfect senses, not by a long shot. We can't hear every pitch, we can't see every spectrum of light, we can't smell all there is to smell. We're limited.
All of this limited information goes to our limited brains, which again, are only as developed as our current models. What we sense is a watered down version of reality. But not reality. What we are is limited too. Although we seem to think we have the monopoly on life most of the time, a plant or an ant probably 'thinks' the same thing. Their existence is enough for them. Ours is enough for us.
It is for me most of the time, but sometimes I envy future creatures who will experience more of reality than I ever will. I'm only getting a glimpse into the possibilities.
The above from another thread, courtesy of Serotonin wraith...so I listen to Richard Dawkins spout on and on and yeah, maybe he makes a point here and a point there, but again, he's limited like we all are. Creationists and evolutionists eternally sparring - it's like two ants discussing the virgin birth...it's out of their league. I don't mind all the hypothesizing and the pontificating, it's all very interesting reading!
At the end of the day, I still 'know' there's a God, delusion or not!
